Clear Grain Exchange (CGX) is an online platform that facilitates the buying and selling of Australian grain. It provides a secure and transparent marketplace for growers, buyers, and their agents to trade grain, including both warehoused and on-farm stored grain. CGX aims to improve farm gate returns by creating a more efficient market for all participants in the grain supply chain.

Business Challenges

Clear Grain Exchange encountered challenges within their technology environment in terms of flexibility and scalability as it had evolved over many years. These obstacles presented opportunities for a significant 'refactor' to both enhance operational efficiency and improve delivery to customers.

The business needed to modernise by adopting a Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) architecture, simplify deployments, and reduce overhead. This was a re-architecture effort, not a lift-and-shift migration.

The modernisation effort aimed to deliver a consistent, scalable, and secure cloud-native platform on AWS with uniform infrastructure provisioning and deployment automation

The client also chose to leverage DORA metrics to give them the capability to measure and improve the efficiency of software development and delivery, leading to faster and more reliable product releases and increased end customer satisfaction.
